The conversation on the sunday run today ranged far and wide, as it does. A chat about speed limits (4MPH) the Forth/Clyde canal led to us chatting about Venice where all water vehicles are tracked and fined if found to be exceeding the limit. So no more James Bond racing around the canals - but hey, has anyone ever seen the Giro TT stage in Venice where they built ramps over the bridges and got the riders to ride a huge pontoon down a canal, past the palaces and churches all the way to the finish in St Peter's Square? Here it is, stage 14, Giro d'Italia 1978 youtu.be/dmF8vf-I6h4It looks totally sketchy especially in the damp and windy weather. I imagine those ramps were none too smooth and that cornering on the greasy flagstones was petrifying. Watching Moser is always a joy though.
